Pink Sands Resort
What to expect: An intimate boutique resort designed by Biba founder Barbara Hulanicki, Pink Sands attracts an international clientele, including celebrities, by providing secluded, private accommodations on Harbour Island, an uncrowded beach, and romantic dining. The resort is set in a gently hilly 20-acre tropical forest and features dense gardens, fieldstone walls, and pebble-and-concrete paths.
Amenity highlights: A sand path through sea grape-covered dunes leads to an east-facing, 3-mile beach of pinkish sand washed by the turquoise Atlantic. On the beach, resort guests are provided with thatched shades and lounge chairs. Use of snorkeling gear, kayaks, and boogie boards is complimentary. The resort's swimming pool is bordered by trees and flower pots. Above the pool deck, a pavilion offers shaded relaxation.
Insider tip: Guests wandering through the resort's forested grounds find lawn-covered clearings and tropical-tree groves with chairs and benches. These secluded areas are ideal for intimate conversation and leisurely contemplation.
Romora Bay Club
What to expect: Although guests must walk a half mile to the pink-sand beach extending three miles along Harbour Island's eastern shore, this resort provides guests with sunset views from a west-facing hillside, which is terraced down a half mile to the Atlantic Ocean passage separating Harbour Island from Eleuthera Island. Couples and families come here for the relaxing, open-air ambience.
Amenity highlights: Terraced into the resort's hillside is a weathered-wood sundeck surrounding a heated, 40-foot, freeform infinity-edge pool that includes a separate children's section. Just below the pool, bright-pink cabanas grace a sand sunbathing terrace. Thickly cushioned lounge chairs offer views of the ocean and Eleuthera Island 0.5 mile away.
Insider tip: Harbour Island’s Dunmore Town is 0.25 mile away and provides an interesting stroll among little pastel colonial-style houses.
Coral Sands Hotel
What to expect: Enlivened by flowering gardens, dragonflies, and darting little lizards, this small, tranquil retreat attracts families and couples seeking rest, relaxation, and a glorious beach.
Amenity highlights: The hotel faces a three-mile beach of pale-pink sand along Harbour Island's eastern shore. A reef ensures calm waters in most weather, permitting use of the hotel's complimentary snorkeling gear and kayaks—as well as complimentary boogie boards when the surf rises a bit. Bordered by seagrape and a sundeck furnished with lounge chairs and double lounge beds, a 35-foot-long kidney-shaped pool provides freshwater swimming. |
Insider tip: A half-mile stroll from the resort leads to the little pastel colonial-style houses in Dunmore Town that make Harbour Island a destination for architectural-history buffs.
